Trouble in River City

“Trouble in River City” tells the story of traveling salesman, Harold Hill, and his visit to a small Iowa town in 1912 where he meets and falls in love with the willful, spinster librarian, Marian Paroo. With his fast-talking style, “Professor” Harold Hill convinces the town that unless they adopt his revolutionary music program, the youngsters of River City will be forever doomed. He gets the parents to buy instruments and expensive uniforms in order to form the River City Boys Band. Chaos ensues as Hill’s credentials are questioned and he is called upon to prove himself to the citizens of River City!

Auditions: Auditions for all lead roles, including dancing, Saturday June 5th at 5pm. Performers wanting a lead role must take the Musical Theatre summer intensive as they will begin working on the musical at that time. Auditions for all other roles Saturday September 25th.

Note from Ms. Kirsten: I realize that some of the written lyrics may be slightly different than the ones in the music. Use the written ones. I have made appropriate changes to some songs. Also, the scripts will be out either the first or second week of June. Due to the copyright of the original script, I have sent in the changes that I made to the Music Man script and can not have it posted until I get the okay to do so. I apologize for any inconveniences this may have caused.

Since the script is not out, for readings during the audition, the older students (11 and up) should focus on speaking the songs “Trouble”, “Piano Lesson If you don’t mind my sayin’ so”, and “Seventy Six Trombones”. While these are songs, they are spoken to music instead of really singing, and will really allow you to bring your own character to them! Younger students should focus on Gary Indiana, and the Winthrop section in Wells Fargo Wagon as well as the dialogue between Amaryllis and Marion during the Piano lesson. SONGS AT THE AUDITION SHOULD BE SUNG A CAPELLA, NOT WITH A RECORDING.
